Designing activewear that didn't chafe was high on our priority list. Our founder Claire was beginning to dread that post-long-run shower where newly formed chafe spots stung like fire, followed by the week long process of the healing crusty scab. She had spent enough time in sweaty activewear to realise what fabrics irritated the skin most and which ones best supported a mimal chafe experience.
So here at RECC. we really honed in on creating high quality activewear that worked hard in supporting our busy active lifestyles, without leaving us red raw and bleeding!
However.... even the best fabrics, the most dynamic designs and the most elite of athletic physiques still chafe when put into overdrive, or during repetitive movements and most definitely during endurance sports...because....ummm....skin rubs, regardless of our shape or size.
So, with that said....what are the best creams and potions to lather on under your RECC. gear? Let's ask our resident athletes and see what they recommend....
Claire's Favourite:
Skin Glide by BODYGLIDE (we bought it here for $22.95)
"I love that it was such an efficient lubricant without being greasy or wet. It feels like a powdery texture, like a primer, that literally glides on. I used this during both my 100km and 50km UltraMarathons and did not chafe or blister at all. And considering I am a BIG sweater, this was a BIG WIN!!"
Belinda's Favourite:
3B Action Cream by Neat Feet for Breasts, Between the Legs & Buttocks (we bought here for $21)
"I live in this stuff! I'm a woman with curves and I literally can not step foot in the gym without this cream or I will leave in major chaffing pain. I always apply a bit of 3B under my breasts, armpits and undie line so I can get through a HIIT class without any discomfort or issues. A life changer really!"
Chris's Favourite:
BodyGlide Anti Chafe Balm (we bought from here for $22.95)
"I was recommended this by a fellow triathlete mate and it's been awesome. Simply apply it before a run, race or workout to basically any body part that rubs (skin on skin, or fabric on skin). My feet no longer blister, my nipples no longer bleed and no more angry raw wounds on my groin. I also love that it doesn't contain some of the harsh chemicals (like parabens) like some other brands do, and it just rolls on easy and mess-free."
Michelle's Favourite:
Sudocrem (nappy rash cream) (We bought from here for $8.25)
"Yes, I know, this stuff is formulated for babies and Nappy Rash, but hey - if it works, it works! I was constantly chafing in one spot - just under my right arm towards my back, so I now massage a little bit of Sudocrem in before a run or workout and I haven't chafed there since. It does leave a slight white greasy layer over the skin which isn't ideal - but it creates such a great barrier that I don't mind a bit of white on show! It's also great to apply to sores or chafe to speed up the healing process"
Kell's Favourite:
Squirrel's Nut Butter (We bought from here for $27.90)
"This stuff is so good. I love that it's all natural and great for sensitive skin. I find it super soft and nourishing and it smells good too."
